In its five-level gallery, the Austrian Cultural Forum New York presents three major thematic exhibitions a year, ideally organized by a team consisting of an American and an Austrian curator. The topics of these group shows generally relate to Austrian culture and foreign policy, but always with reference to the interests of the New York public. The declared goal is to offer emerging artists from Austria an opportunity for direct comparison with established international and American artists. Our exhibitions have been reviewed in such venerable outlets as The New York Times, Artforum, Art in America, etc. See our >> Press Room for more information.
Recent exhibitions included Under Pain of Death (2008), Bread and Soccer (2008); Cutting Realities (2008); Open Space Uncurated – Creative Migration (2009); The Seen and the Hidden: (Dis)Covering the Veil (2009), 1989: The End of History or the Beginning of the Future (2009), NineteenEightyFour (2010), Serbia - Frequently Asked Questions (2010/2011), Alpine Desire (Jan 24 - May 8, 2011), Fünf Räume (co-curated by Dave Harper), Beauty Contest (co-curated by Berthold Ecker and Claude Grunitzky, in cooperation with MUSA Vienna, 2011), and It's the Political Economy, Stupid (curated by Oliver Ressler and Greg Sholette, 2012).
