b. 1957 in Jenbach, Austria; lives and works in Vienna, Austria

The photographer takes the perspective of a journeyman, revealing the hardship and dignity of normal street life in the suburbs of metropolitan centers. The photographs serve as a visual journal chronicling both clichéd and more unexpected scenes from urban life. Not indicating where each photo was shot, Leitner shows a series of observations made in Serbia, Austria, and the USA. He writes: “I find many Balkan-like motifs when I stroll through the streets of Vienna … Chicago, for instance, is the third-largest Serbian city in the world. Weren’t there also NATO-bombs over Serbia?”
