b. 1974 in Salzburg, Austria; lives and works in Koper, Slovenia, and Salzburg, Austria

As an Austrian artist living and working in Slovenia, Steinacher has long been intrigued and fascinated by the emotional and cultural power still revolving around Tito’s heritage in the former Yugoslavia. His paintings refer to general processes of selective, post-conflict remembrance. His irony is the fulcrum of unmasking history. With his satirical portrayal of Tito, he not only ridicules, but also humanizes the dictator, thus subverting nostalgic notions of the past.
