HOLIDAY SEASON SURPRISE CONCERT

SILENT NIGHT - HOLIDAY TRADITIONS FROM SALZBURG AND SOUNDS BEYOND

THURSDAY DEC 17, 07:30 PM

Traditional musicians from Salzburg, the brothers Markus and Christian Giglmayr will present a special Salzburg Holiday Season Concert which will conclude a year rich in eclectic sounds at the ACFNY. Both are dedicated to the authentic, original versions of the traditional Austrian music and also specifically  traditional songs from Salzburg. They are renowned for their harmonious vocal presentations. Professor Werner Thuswaldner who has dedicated himself to research and lectures on the topic will give an illuminating introduction on the world famous song "Silent Night" and related issues. The brothers Gigelmayr will then  perform Christmas favorites such as "Stille Nacht" (Silent Night), "Da Winter schaut eina", "Der güldene  Rosenkranz," and "Als Maria übers Gebirge ging" in the most pure and traditional way.

Subsequently these sounds from Salzburg will be juxtaposed with the equally wonderful sounds of the brass trio B3+ which takes on traditional Holiday carols and melodies in a more modern way, thus symbolically linking  Salzburg and New York. B3+ is a trio of world class musicians: Franz Hackl on trumpets & flügelhorn, Dave Taylor on  bass trombone and John Clark on french horn combine their deep-rooted understanding of classical forms with a thirst for searching out new contexts for their playing, contexts ranging from traditional jazz and folk music to the avant-garde. The New York-based group has performed a series of historic concerts at the world renowned Outreach festival in Schwaz, Austria and frequently plays in and around New York.

This special concert was made possible in large part with the generous support of the Salzburg State Government.
