Solace in Video and Film

Screening of videos and films selected by Andreas Huber and introduced with texts by Robert Thill.

Robert Thill's writing has appeared in Art Criticism, The Architect's Newspaper, and Leonardo: Journal of the International Society for the Arts, Science and Technology. He has written exhibition material for the Drawing Center, New York, the Stedelijk Museum Bureau Amsterdam, and the Art Gallery of Windsor, Ontario. Thill has served as contributing editor of Transcript, a journal of visual culture published by the School of Fine Art, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, Scotland.

Andreas Huber explain his choice in the following way:

"Just as you cannot explain a work of art in two or three sentences, I find it difficult to describe video work because it is very multilayered and can involve many levels of meaning.My approach in selecting works relating to the subject of solace was to concentrate on both effective and ineffective examples of consolation.
We can be carried away by love (Paolo Mezzacapo de Cenzo), enthusiasm (Susanne Bürner), and political utopian ideas – even when cynically deconstructed (Gernot Wieland). Then there is failure, which can plunge us into depression (Joep van Liefland) and existential identity crises (Diego Perrone).
