The ACIES QUARTETT, founded in September 2000 by students at the Kärntner Landeskonservatorium (Carinthian State Conservatory). The ensemble studied with Brian Finlayson and Günther Pichler (Alban Berg Quartet) at the Instituto Internacional de Música de Cámara in Madrid from 2008-10.

Since their founding, they have been awarded  several renowned prizes, including the federal Austrian Prima la musica competition which they won with distinction, the first prize in the category ‘string quartet’ of Gradus ad Parnassum 2006, Austria’s elite competition, as well as the Mozart Prize 2006.

In 2005 and 2006, the four young musicians accepted invitations to New York to attend courses by members of the Juilliard Quartet. In addition to numerous concerts at home and abroad, the quartet has performed within the framework of their Jeunesse Austria Tour in the Brahms-Saal of the Vienna Musikverein. Their debut in the Vienna Konzerthaus followed in May 2008. As a highlight in 2010, the Acies Quartet had a very successful debut at the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg. In 2010/11 the musicians had performances at the Wiener Musikverein, in New Delhi, Milan, and Paris.
