ANNA MAGDALENA KOKITS IN CONCERT
THURSDAY OCT 05, 07:30 PM
The young and talented Austrian pianist Anna Magdalena Kokits has already established her reputation as a brilliant solo artist. She has performed internationally and just recorded her first CD. One of her passions is to discover forgotten or rarely heard music, as well as collaborating with living composers. At the ACFNY, she will perform an exciting mixture of contemporary music by Manuela Kerer and Vivian Fung, romantic pieces by Alexander von Zemlinsky, witty musical gems by Jewish- Austrian composer Ernst Toch, music by Ludwig van Beethoven and will pay tribute to George Gershwin.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Anna Magdalena Kokits, born in Vienna in 1988, received her first piano scholarship at the age of four, later studying at the Vienna Conservatory Private University under Alejandro Geberovich. While still in her teens she began performing solo recitals and with a number of renowned orchestras, including the Tonkünstler Orchester Niederösterreich and the Moscow Virtuosos. Kokits devotes a great deal of time to contemporary music, and has cooperated closely with composers such as Richard Dünser, Tomasz Skweres, Helmut Schmidinger, Thomas Larcher, Christoph Renhart and Lukas Haselböck. She is also particularly interested in rediscovering lesser-known or forgotten repertoires. At present, she is working on the premiere recording of the complete piano works of Ernst Toch (1887-1964) and a CD of chamber pieces by Mieczyslaw Weinberg (1919-1996).
