The project was started by Gerhard Fluch, principal trumpet in the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, and has successfully held guest performances at the University of Connecticut, the Outreach Jazz Festival in Tyrol, Austria, and in the Brucknerhaus Linz. Praised as “a fabulous event with brilliant virtuosos”, trump@art gives insight into the vital contemporary music scene in Austria. The program includes outstanding compositional achievements by established composers as well as newcomers.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES

GERHARD FLUCH was born in Waidhofen/Ybbs, Austria. He studied Trumpet Performance at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna under Prof. Josef Pomberger (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra) and completed his degree with top honors.

During his studies, Gerhard Fluch substituted in the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Vienna Symphony, Tonkü Orchestra Lower Austria, Vienna State Opera, Vienna Volksoper, and the NDR Symphony Orchestra under the direction of renowned conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, Sir Simon Rattle, Nicolaus Harnoncourt, Zubin Metha, and Seiji Ozawa. In 2007, he was hired as first trumpet in the Bruckner Orchestra Linz.

NIKOLAUS WAGNER was also born in Waidhofen/Ybbs, Austria and is Solorepetitor at the Anton Bruckner University in Linz. He started his piano-education at the Conservatorium of Vienna with Leonid Brumberg, and continued it at the University of Music with Antoinette van Zabner (piano), Theresa Leopold (chamber music) and David Lutz (accompaniment). Important stimuli came from masterclasses with Peter Efler, Helmut Deutsch, Thomas Quastoff, M. Hinterhäuser, and G. Kurtag.

Nikolaus Wagner accompanies on regular basis members of the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra, Vienna Symphonic Orchestra, RSO Vienna, Tonkünstler­orchester Niederösterreich, DSO Berlin and the „ensemble intercontemporain Paris“. He gave concerts and recitals at the Musikverein Vienna, Konzerthaus Vienna, at the Philharmonie Berlin, Cologne, Baden-Baden Freiburg, at the Colombia University New York and at the University of Connecticut. As a founding member of the „Trio Marc Chagall“ he is a laureate of the in­ternational Johannes Brahms chamber music competition and he is a Karajan-scholarship holder within the frame of the „musica juventutis“ at the Konzerthaus Vienna.

The flutist BIRGIT FLUCH was also born in Waidhofen/Ybbs, Austria and studied with Barbara Gisler-Haase and Wolfgang Schulz at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and with Benoit Fromanger at the “Hanns Eisler” Music Hochschule in Berlin. She graduated from both universities with honors and completed numerous masterclasses. Particularly influential were the artistic impulses from well-known piccolo players such as Günter Voglmayr (Vienna Philharmonic) and Maurizio Simeoli (Teatro alla Scala Milano).

As a winner of several national and international competitions including “Jugend musiziert”, “Concertino Praga”, Musica Juventutis”, and “Gradus Ad Parnassum”, Birgit Fluch was one of the few young artists whose talents were supported by various cultural foundations from an early age. She received scholarships from the Swiss foundation “Dr. Robert and Lina Thyll-Dürr”, the Herbert von Karajan Center Vienna, the Tokyo Foundation, and the “Werner Tripp Memorial Foundation”. In June 2009, Birgit Fluch won the flute audition for the Tonkünstler Orchestra Lower Austria, of which she has been a member since. Along with being a member of the Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra and on a guest contract with Milan’s La Scala (February to June 2014), Birgit Fluch also substitutes with the Vienna Philharmonic, the Vienna State Opera and Volksoper, the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
