IRENE KEPL: SololoS

Austrian contemporary musician and composer, Irene Kepl (violin) plays her program SololoS at Downtown Music Gallery, NYC. Kepl will deliver a program of experimental music which was released on FOU Records (FR) earlier this year. The music includes a broad range of fiddling, masterful timbres, poetry, and sound that are relevant and unique. On this evening she will collaborate with special guest, David Grollman (viola).
ABOUT THE ARTIST
For a decade now, the renowned violinist, improviser and composer, Irene Kepl has been exploring contemporary music, free improvisation and jazz. She works for theater, film and dance. She plays in concert halls as well as in renowned clubs, always aiming to push the borders of musical expression. She's received grants and prizes such as Gustav Mahler- and Theodor Körner Prize, mostly for her compositional work. At residencies and invitations to "humanoise" Wiesbaden or to music OMI/NY, she explores contemporary ways of musical expression and tours internationally, performing at festivals such as Moers Festival and Java Jazz, NowNow and sonic circuits amongst others. She founded or is a member of many projects such as Violet Spin, Ensemble Verso (zeromoon records 2016), Kepl & Holub (SLAM records 2015), resonators (Another Timbre 2016), faqs (w/ Dirk Marwedel & Uwe Oberg), SololoS (improv Violin Solo, FOU records) and released several CDs which have earned international attention. Collaborations indclude work with Mark Holub, Joëlle Léandre, Ursina Tossi, Joe McPhee, Mats Gustafsson, Maja Osojnik, Veryan Weston, Michael Zerang, Moe Staiano, Christoph Kurzmann, Korhan Ehel/TR and Carl Ludwig Hübsch/D. Irene Kepl founded a concert series called "Musik im Raum" in Upper Austria and now runs a new one at "KunstbeTrieb" in Vienna, featuring contemporary and improvised music. www.irenekepl.at
