ISCP FALL OPEN STUDIOS

FRIDAY, NOV 09 2018 - SATURDAY, NOV 10 2018

Opening Reception: Friday, November 9, 6–9pm
With guest speaker artist Jonas Mekas at 7pm
Open Hours: Saturday, November 10, 1–7pm

The International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) Fall Open Studios is a two-day exhibition of international contemporary art presented by the 35 artists and curators from 23 countries currently in residence. Jonas Mekas, whose groundbreaking work has had a significant impact on the fields of film, poetry and art, will make remarks at 7pm on November 9.

Twice a year only, ISCP offers the public access to private artists’ and curators’ studios to view artwork and share one-on-one conversations. Concentrated in a three-story postindustrial loft building on the edge of Bushwick, ISCP has supported the creative advancement of residents for over twenty years, with a robust program of individual workspaces and professional benefits.

Austrian artists Linda Reif and Benjamin Hirte (sponsored by the Arts and Culture Division of the Federal Chancellery of Austria) are two of the 35 artists and curators currently in residence at ISCP and will present their work.

ABOUT

Benjamin Hirte uses a combination of objects and text within his works to examine themes of semiotics, slang, and metaphor within cultural histories. He has exhibited at Museum für moderne Kunst, Frankfurt; Museo Canonica, Villa Borghese, Rome; and Leopold Museum, Vienna, among others. www.benjaminhirte.com

Linda Reif’s photographic image production tends toward sculpture and abstraction. Her work is strongly linked to an interest in lens-based media and methods reflect the unsentimental way she approaches photography. Her main focus lies in the distortion, the non-glossy impact of images, while investigating the vulnerability of photography and the poetic impact of sculptural display. Linda Reif has exhibited at New Jörg, Vienna; Treignac Projet, France; and periscope, Salzburg, among others. www.lindareif.com
