LITERARY QUARTET: TWO ON TWO

In the first of two speed-chess style interviews, writer-editors Morgan Meis and John Freeman speak with acclaimed Festival participants from across the globe. Each writer – Iceland’s Sjon, Austria’s Josef Winkler, the Netherland’s Geert Mak, and the United States’ own Siri Hustvedt – is a master from his or her own country. Don’t miss the chance to hear these fine writers speak about topics including religion, art, and craft.

“Literary Quartet: Two on Two” is presented by PEN in association with The Public Theater and co-sponsored by the Austrian Cultural Forum of New York, Consulate General of Iceland, Dutch Foundation for Literature and Iceland Literature Center, as part of the Tenth Annual PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature.

More than 150 writers from 30 nations will gather in New York City for the PEN World Voices of International Literature. For its 10th anniversary, the festival celebrates those who have dared to stand “on the edge,” risking their careers, and sometimes their lives, to speak out for their art and beliefs. Join us for a wide range of events, including debates, one-on-one conversations, participatory workshops, and performances. Building upon PEN American Center’s tradition of defending freedom of expression, the festival will foster cross-cultural dialogue among writers, artists, and citizens around the globe, offering connective tissue for a new generation to see beyond cultural divisions and misconceptions.
