MOVING SOUNDS FESTIVAL | OPENING NIGHT
MOVING SOUNDS FESTIVAL | BR-LASER, MSHR & YATTA
SUNDAY, OCT 15, 08:00 PM
Join us for opening night of the ACFNY'S Moving Sounds Festival: Ars Electronica / Eyebeam Edition! This year's festival on experimental music and aesthetic dialogue brings together two renowned institutions in the fields of art, technology and social awareness to curate this year's program: Austrian electronic arts center Ars Electronica and Brooklyn-based nonprofit technology studio Eyebeam together with ISSUE Project Room and POWRPLNT.
The opening event at Roulette features Austrian electronic and laser artist, BR-Laser and New York-based performers and innovators, YATTA and MSHR.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Br-Laser is an engineer, visual sound artist and cofounder of Kunstverein NewJörg Vienna. He is a regular guest at international experimental music festivals, music fairs and soldering workshops. Performance highlights include: Ars Electonica (Linz), Superbooth (Berlin), Modular Days (Barcelona), and Machines in Music (New York).
MSHR is the art collective of Birch Cooper and Brenna Murphy. They build and explore systems to reveal pathways toward ecstatic sensory experience and work at the intersection of digital sculpture, analog circuitry and ceremonial performance. The physical projects revolve around analog light-audio feedback systems built from macro-arrangements of our sculptural synthesizers. On the virtual side, they weave computer generated portraits of inter-dimensional entities and psychedelic realms. These physical and virtual pursuits inform each other deeply, unfolding a hyper-shape that houses both.
YATTA is a Houston-born interdisciplinary artist, digipoet, and musician currently based in Brooklyn. Using incantations born of loop pedal drones, folk acoustics, and ecstatic beats, they alchemize and creolize jazz vocals with Krio cries to create music to lie down in.
ABOUT MOVING SOUNDS
The ACFNY’s Moving Sounds Festival of music, visual media and aesthetic dialogue was founded together with Argento Ensemble in 2009. Intersecting artistic genres and breaking cultural boundaries, Moving Sounds brings together fresh works, rare pairings and contemporary approaches to music, performance and visual media, drawing from past traditions, while balancing on the cutting edge of tomorrow. The current program draws from the deep pockets of knowledge and experimentation at the juncture of art, technology and society of the renowned international institutions, Ars Electronica and Eyebeam, together with ISSUE Project Room and POWRPLNT. Moving Sounds 2017 takes place between October 15 and 21, 2017 in various locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan. www.movingsoundsfestival.org
