OPTICAL SOUND
Optical Sound – Screening at TRIBECA Film Festival
Optical Sound is a homage to the type of soundtrack that has moved to the visible realm. It visually shows what can simultaneously be heard. The conventional production process, in which musical accompaniment
is added to sequences of images, is reversed: sound is dominant, and light follows. Optical Sound will be featured at the Tribeca Film Festival 2014 as Austria’s only contribution. Both directors will attend the
screenings.
In an era when cinema has gone digital once and for all and the optical soundtrack is history, Groen and Neubacher once again give life to analogue film material. Light and sound — the essences of cinema — are celebrated in this timeless, lyric collage.
Elke Groen studied architecture and photography in Vienna and has been working since 1995 as a filmmaker and editor.
Christian Neubacher studied of photography and film and humanities at the University of Vienna. He has worked in various capacities in the film industry, including as a curator, critic and script editor.
