ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Austrian tenor Paul Schweinester, gained his first musical experiences as a solo singer with the Wilten Boys’ Choir. In 2009, after completing his first degree, he began studying “Singing and Oratorio“ with Professor David Lutz. The young tenor acquired his first professional experience in 2007, when he played the third squire in Gustav Kuhn’s Parsifal at the Tyrolean Festival Erl. Further important influences on Paul Schweinester’s work were a CD recording of songs by E.W. Korngold for the Jewish Museum, a guest performance as Prince Yamadori in Puccini’s Madame Butterfly in Mumbai under Johannes Wildner and, within the framework of the Vienna Festival, the role of Romeo in an opera by G. A. Benda with some new compositions by Ulrich Krah at the Vienna Schauspielhaus. Since 2009, Paul Schweinester has also been a permanent member of the ensemble of the Vienna Volksoper, where he has recently performed as Junker Spärlich (Slender) in O. Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor and as Pedrillio in Mozart’s The Abduction from the Seraglio. In the summer of 2010, Paul Schweinester appeared at the Reinsberg Festival as Damon in Händel’s Acis and Galatea with the Vienna Academy under Martin Haselböck. This season, he will also appear as a tenor soloist in two concerts featuring cantatas by Bach at the Vienna Konzerthaus under the direction of Luca Pianca.
Finland-born Juho Alakärppä studied piano, chamber music and Lied interpretation at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, and in Cologne and Munich with Liisa Pohjola, Ulrich Rademacher, Friedemann Berger and Gerold Huber. He has won several awards for song accompaniment in his home country and special prize for Lied-Duo in Das Lied – International Song Competition in Berlin. He performs regularly with many acclaimed Finnish singers and is debuting as a Lied pianist in August 2011 at the Helsinki Festival, the biggest music festival in Finland. He collaborates frequently with young German singers and instrumentalists. He has recorded songs for Finnish radio and appeared in live broadcasts in Germany. He has played in concerts in Sweden, Estonia and Germany.
