WORKSHOP AND BOOK LAUNCH
SOCIAL DESIGN & SOCIAL IMPACT
THURSDAY MAY 03, 06:00 PM
The Austrian Cultural Forum New York is hosting a workshop for creatives and entrepreneurs, celebrating the launching of Doris Rothauer's book Vision & Strategy - Strategic Thinking for Creative and Social Entrepreneurs (Birkhäuser, 2018).
In his groundbreaking 1970s book Design for the Real World, the Austrian designer Victor Papanek, who emigrated to the United States in 1939, argued for the designer´s responsibility in shaping our economy and society by designing for the good. His claim for social and ecological awareness is more topical than ever. Designers and other creatives are an important part of the "Change Maker" movement who can contribute with impactful strategies to a better world.
But how to develop these strategies and, at the same time, make it work as a business and for business? In this context, the phenomenon of a new social entrepreneurship has generated tools and methods that, fostered by clear visions, are driven by impact over mere profit. Bringing design, creativity and social impact business modelling together, this workshop provides insights and tools for designers and other creatives aiming at designing a better future for society with their work. Topics covered in the workshop include best practice examples of social design, introduction into strategic thinking based on visions, and tools & methods from social entrepreneurship and impact business modelling.
Participation is free and open to the public. However, due to a maximum of 20 participants, priority will be given to designers, creatives, and industry representatives. Participation includes a free copy of Doris Rothauer's book Vision & Strategy - Strategic Thinking for Creative and Social Entrepreneurs as well as refreshments and a cocktail reception following the 1,5 hour Workshop.
Applications should include a short bio and statement of interest and may be sent via email (reference "Design, Creativity & Social Impact Workshop" 3 May 2018) no later than April 23rd 2018 to firstname.lastname@example.org.
