STUDIO DAN / KRÜGER&PARDELLER

FRIDAY DEC 01, 07:30 PM

On Friday, December 1, 2017 at 7:30 pm, the Austrian Cultural Forum New York presents the Austrian 10-piece ensemble Studio Dan in their US debut.

In the first half of the program, Studio Dan performs original music that was written by Daniel Riegler to accompany the multimedia installation HOMO FABER. Displayed from 2014 to 2015 at the 21er Haus in Vienna, HOMO FABER focused on the role of artists as the creators of new artifacts. The installation juxtaposed historical sound recordings and works by sculptor Fritz Wotruba with texts and works from the artist duo Krüger & Pardeller, alongside Mr. Riegler's compositions.*

The concert also features the world premiere performance of a commissioned work by Christian F. Schiller (*1977). Schiller studied composition with Gerd Kühr and Georg Friedrich Haas in Graz, and his music has been performed by prestigious ensembles including Klangforum Wien and Ensemble Recherche. The material of this new piece derives from experiments with a harmonica which Schiller inherited from his grandfather. Using an exact duplicate of the instrument, the composition is scored for two harmonicas and ensemble. "We are thrilled to be premiering a new work by Christian Schiller, and sharing his music with the NYC audience," says Studio Dan founder, Daniel Riegler. "We consider him to be one of the most exciting young composers in Austria."

* From 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, a video of the installation will run in ACFNY's theater. No reservations required.
