For two nights in a row, The Little Band From Gingerland will be presenting songs from their current CD Sir Prise, their debut album Time out Time, sprinkled with seasonal classics. The second concert will take place on >> FRIDAY, DEC 20 at 7:30 PM.

Ángela Tröndle und Sophie Abraham began working together as The Little Band From Gingerland in 2010, and the quartet formation with Siegmar Brecher on bass clarinet and Peter Kronreif followed as of 2011. With their unconventional melding of cabaret, chanson, art-pop, jazz, classical, and electronica, the group has ganied an impressive following in a short period of time.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Dutch-born Sophie Abraham, (b. 1986) came to Styria, Austria, as a teenager. She studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In the Little Band from Gingerland, her off-classical pet project, she serves as composer, improviser, singer, and, of course, cellist, playing both acoustic and electronic  music. The classical Piano Trio, “Trio Frühstück”, is the most important pillar in her classical music life. A debut album is forthcoming in the fall of 2014 with works by Haydn, Brahms, and Thomas Wally who has dedicated compositions for the trio. She is also involved with “SCURDIA, Markus Schirmer and Friends”, performing world music with great pleasure. Sophie has also performed with the Viennese Symphony Orchestra, the Graz Symphony Orchestra, and Recreation-Graz.

Angela Tröndle
hails from Salzburg, (b. 1983), and began her studies of the violin and piano at an early age. She studied jazz voice and composition at the University for Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz, Austria. From 2005 - 2011 Ángela focused on her group “Ángela Tröndle & MOSAIK“ as a singer and composer. They have released 2 CDs and played numerous concerts in  Austria as well as in China, Mexico, Kazakhstan, and many European countries. She is also involved in performances with dancers and actors, such as with her piece „O LEBEN, LEBEN!“ (2008, 2009), based on poems by Rainer Maria Rilke, or „SPiEL:DiEDA“ (2012). Since 2010 she has focused on The Little Band From Gingerland. In 2012 a collaboration with the cologne based musician and producer Wolfgang Zamastil led to the pop/songwriting-project LUNA*LAB, they released their first album “CALLING“ in September 2013. Ángela lives and works as a singer, composer and music teacher in Vienna.

Saxophonist Siegmar Brecher (b. 1978) is from Graz, Austria. He studied jazz saxophone at the University for Music and Dramatic Arts in Graz. He also studied with Dick Oatts and Steve Wilson in New York City. He has worked with several smaller and larger bands as a sideman (Ángela Tröndle & Mosaik, Akrostichon, Jazzwerkstatt Composers Ensemble, The little Band from Gingerland etc.), but also as a leader, with his quartett „Roundabout“, followed by „Merry-go-round“ (2007), „Eject“ (2011), and „Dogs of Lust“ (2012). He has performed throughout Austria, and abroad. He has released two CDs with his trio formation “Edi Nulz“, where he plays with two young Berlin-based musicians. Siegmar is the founder and main organizer of the „Jazzwerkstatt Graz“, a festival that has featured countless young musicians since 2007. He lives and works as a musician, composer, music teacher, and concert organizer in Vienna.


Salzburg-born Peter Kronreif, studied Jazz at Bruckner Conservatory in Linz with Doug Hammond and Jeff Boudreaux. As a young perfromer, he gained experience performing with European jazz greats such as Alegre Correa, Matthieu Michell, Harry Sokal, and many more. After having won the Hans-Koller-Award as "Sideman of the Year" in 2009, Kronreif moved to NYC in 2010 to work with his own band, The Wayfarers. He perfroms with a number of bands and projects, touring throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.
