“The Moving Sounds Festival means its title to be taken in every possible way. The works performed during this three-day event are meant to be moving, if not always emotionally then viscerally or intellectually.” - Allan Kozinn, The New York Times

about the festival

Moving Sounds Festival is an international festival founded in 2009 by the Austrian Cultural Forum New York. The festival celebrates movement, the performing arts, and the current leaders at the crossroads of classical, new, and electronic music.

The ACFNY's Moving Sounds 2015 presents Liquid Architecture / Frozen Music: performances, an interactive sound installation and social environment, sound walks, film and video programs, and discussions exploring the intersections of music / architecture and sound / space.

Austrian architect Raimund Abraham's iconic and totemic Austrian Cultural Forum in Midtown Manhattan becomes the subject, site, and interlocutor of creative interventions exploring the building's architecture through sound, music, movement, and participatory aesthetics. Sound artist Bernd Klug transforms Abraham's ACFNY into an interactive social musical instrument, which also serves as the frame for performances with and within Klug's environment, including the world premiere of his 'String Quartet and Skyscraper', commissioned by New Music USA.

Sound artist Katrinem explores and maps the sonic landscape of Midtown Manhattan with her 'Paths of Awarness'.

The Argento New Music Ensemble presents 'Scelsi Revisited: Haas, Murail, Scelsi', with violinist David Fulmer illuminating Giacinto Scelsi's 'Anahit' for large ensemble and violin coupled with spatialized responses by Tristan Murail and the US premiere of Georg Friedrich Haas's Introduktion und Transsonation for large ensemble and tape.

In line with the ACFNY's role as a forum, Liquid Architecture / Frozen Music opens an unlikely inter-disciplinary exploration of architecture and a meeting place of creativity, experimentalism, and critical thought whose international profile includes projects from Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, France, and Italy.
