MUSIC PROGRAM JANUARY - APRIL 2008
KAMMERMUSIK - THE ACF CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES
This ACF concert series presents a mix of contemporary, modern, and older chamber music programs in ACF's wood-paneled, state-of-the-art theatre. Challenging the immediacy of music in a cozy space with a wide variety of works, the series allows for courage, experimentation, and levels of intimacy one might not find elsewhere. It aims to make classical music more accessible, especially to younger generations, and raise awareness for its continuing depth and relevance in our age of digital abstraction. The ACF Chamber Music Series also occasionally focuses on particular genres or instrumentations and pays attention to new relevant academic and musicological findings. It regularly promotes fruitful cooperation between Austrian and European artists. An example is the collaboration between Austrian violinist Wolfgang David and American composer and pianist David Gompper. The ACF Chamber Music Series also frequently showcases innovative American ensembles and their directors, such as the Either/Or Ensemble (Richard Carrick) and the Argento Ensemble (Michel Galante). To complete the program, outstanding young ensembles from Austria like the Merlin Ensemble and Musica Novantica Vienna will perform alongside excellent soloists throughout the spring season.

LIED - THE ACF SONG SERIES
LIED - THE ART OF SONG is one of the highlights of the spring season at the ACF. Telling stories or communicating inner feelings without the additional support of sets and costumes requires the very best qualities in singing. The more sophisticated the songs are, the more difficult it is to pass on the art of interpreting them. This season the ACF has chosen excellent interpreters of the art of song and the crucial historic context of the year 1938 for its focus on Austrian exile composers and the legacy of the "Theresienstadt composers". By establishing lineages between past and present, LIED - THE ART OF SONG testifies to the vital relationship between memory and awareness as well as the artistic expression of that memory.
