BARTUSSEK & FRIENDS | SPECIAL END-OF-SEASON CONCERT
JUNE 22 | 07:30 PM
As has become customary, the Austrian Cultural Forum marked the end of the season with a special concert on June 22, 2011: a string quintet comprised of five young members of Juilliard's Historical Performance Program highlighted the varied approaches to chamber music generated in the environment of the music scene in Vienna in the second half of the 18th century, progressed from an early Mozart quartet to the highly virtuosic and humorous Concerto for Double Bass by Domenico Dragonetti.
By invitation of the Austrian Cultural Forum, the young Austrian cellist Leonhard Bartussek put together the ensemble of musicians: Beth Wenstrom and Adriane Post (violins), William Frampton (viola), Douglas Balliett (Viennese double bass), and Leonhard Bartussek (cello) all met at the newly-created Historical Performance Program at the Juilliard School, which seeks to nurture and expand New York's early music scene.
Juilliard’s graduate-level Historical Performance program was established in September 2009, achieving immediate recognition as one of the leading programs of its kind. The department’s faculty members include many renowned performers, scholars, writers, and teachers in the field of period-instrument practice.
