HYPERION ENSEMBLE STRING SEXTET | CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES
JANUARY 31, 2011 | 7:30 PM

The Salzburg-based string sextet Hyperion Ensemble has become one of the most talked-about chamber music ensembles in Europe. The musicians have played in some of the most prestigious orchestras and chamber music societies in Europe. Founded in 1996, Hyperion quickly established its presence through highly acclaimed performances throughout Europe, and have released multiple recordings under their eponymous label.

Hyperion Ensemble are:
Suse von Gutzeit and Werner Neugebauer (violin)
Firmian Lermer and Peter Langgartner (viola)
Detlef Mielke and Erich Oskar Hütter (violoncello)

Their mission is to offer audiences a range of unorthodox programs featuring well-known works along with seldom heard chamber music in a new context – thereby changing the way the listener perceives the works.
In their home territory of Austria and Germany, Hyperion has performed at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, Berliner Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Wien, Stiftung Mozarteum Salzburg, and many other venues.

In January 2011 the Hyperion Ensemble marked Franz Schubert’s birthday at the Austrian Cultural Forum New York, by performing “String Quintet in C-Major,” Arnold Schönberg’s “String Sextet” after the poem “Verklärte Nacht” by Richard Dehmel and Friedrich Cerha’s “8 Sätze nach Hölderlin-Fragmente.
