Werner Reiterer : Raw Loop
April 22 - June 29 | 2008
The Speed Art Museum | KY
I believe that art is actually always about developing new rules for perceiving the world. - Werner Reiterer
Is art allowed to make us laugh? The Speed Art Museum is proud to present the first solo exhibition in the United States featuring work by Austrian artist Werner Reiterer, offering museum visitors an opportunity to enjoy the unique way this artist uses humor and irony to reflect upon how we view and make sense of the world.
As an artist, Werner Reiterer finds himself in the lucky position of being capable of turning the world upside down in works that question perception while exploring art's proximity to everyday reality. In drawings, objects, and installations he engages the viewer as an active agent in a play of thoughts that unsettle our expectations and, while often seeming absurd, throw new light upon the complex nature of our experiences.

Modernism: On and Off the Grid
May 11 - 25 | 2008
Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson
The exhibition Modernism: On and Off the Grid, curated by Niko Vicario, brings together works by four artists and one architecture collective engaged with the legacy of Modernist architecture and design. American artist Dan Graham, Italian architecture collective Superstudio, and Austrian artists Martin Beck, VALIE EXPORT, and Dorit Margreiter work variously in film, video, photography, sculpture, and across and between media. The works in this exhibition - the earliest made in the early 1970s and the most recent completed in 2007 - replicate, modify, and critique Modernist aesthetics, illuminating form?'s relationship to history, subjectivity, and social space.

Ricarda Denzer at SITE Santa Fe's Seventh International Biennial: Lucky Number Seven
June 22 - October 26 | 2008
SITE Santa Fe | NM
Artist Ricarda Denzer was invited to participate in the 7th SITE Santa Fe Biennial on behalf of the Vienna Secession. Denzer, who lives and works in Vienna, engages with aspects of film and architecture to explore notions of power and the forms it takes within the public and private spheres. Her work revolves around language, particularly the spoken word, which often serves as the focus of her investigations into the relationships between author and subject.
The artists featured in the biennial are all emerging practitioners, none of whom have visited Santa Fe before. In June, all of the artists will build their works, some in SITE's building and some in off-site locations all over town, for the opening from June 20 to 22, 2008. The exhibition runs through October 26, 2008.

Németh and Siewert perform Film
US tour 2008
Németh's debut solo album Film was released on February 5 on Thrill Jockey Records (Chicago). It has already garnered much critical acclaim in publications across North America and Europe such as The Wire, Signal to Noise, and The Chicago Reader. The lineup features Martin Brandlmayr, a noted percussionist with whom Németh also plays in Radian.
In May, Stefan Németh will be touring as a duo with Martin Siewert. Much of the music selected for the tour was originally composed as sound tracks for experimental Austrian and international films. Performances will include re-edited versions of the album and new pieces composed by Németh/Siewert. In several concerts, the duo will share the stage with KTL, a band featuring Peter Rehberg from the Austrian label Editions Mego.

feet of contemporary choreographers
Photo Exhibition
August 29 - September 12 | 2008
Philadelphia Live Arts Festival
You Have Two of Them
Modern dance started when barefoot dance was discovered at the beginning of the 20th century in Europe. To strip the feet stated a new orientation, away from the classical aesthetics and ballet shoes. In dance, the foot becomes an essential means of expression and a tool charged with a high symbolic value.
The exhibition feet of contemporary choreographers by Lisa Rastl and Willi Dorner presents dance artists in relationship with their extremities, of which Mathilde Monnier says: "La dance, c'est le pied" - Dancing means the feet. The series includes feet of renowned contemporary choreographers including Steve Paxton, Meg Stuart, Mark Tompkins, Lloyd Newson, Alain Platel, and Nir Ben Gal.
