INNER SEQUENCE

THURSDAY 25 SEPTEMBER 2008, 7:30 PM

In continuation of the dance/performance program which saw its first large event "Transversality Lab" in the Spring Season, the ACF now presents a further "stepping stone". Luca Veggetti will choreograph an evening with contemporary music by Austrian and international composers, as well as in conjunction with the theme of the current ACF-exhibition, in which women take center-stage.

Franco Donatoni - Nidi for piccolo flute
Toshio Hosokawa - Vertical song for flute
Paolo Aralla - Karos for alto flute and tape
Georg Friederich Haas "...aus freier Lust ... verbunden" for bass flute

FLUTES: ERIN LESSER
DANCE FRANCES CHIAVERINI: BRITTANY FRIDENSTINE
CONCEPT/ CHOREOGRAPHY/ COSTUMES: LUCA VEGGETTI
LIGHTING DESIGN: RODERICK MURRAY

The project explores the particular nature of feminine energy in relation to sound, space, light, and movement, that is to say, within the all encompassing boundaries of music and dance. In the small and intimate performing space of the ACF, three female performers, a flutist playing different flutes and two dancers, inhabit an enclosed world whose rules and laws seems to obey to the patterns and lines of a forgotten ritual. Reflecting the widest range of techniques within the contemporary literature for the instrument, the chosen sequence of pieces brings forth the act of breathing as the primary element of this inner theatre, a unity of measure determining all possible relations: between one performer and the other as well as between their actions, the space and the audience. As a mirror of their artistic and human endeavours the skilful use of the breath embodies the dedication and discipline of the dancer and the musician, the inevitable tool and mean of expression for their aspirations.
