WOLFSONIAN FIU: DOUBLE VISION
FRIDAY, OCT 06 2017 - SUNDAY, APR 01 2018
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
Graphic design helps establish a visual identity—a brand—for a client. At the same time, it can express the designer’s individual creativity.
To explore this dual nature of graphic identity, Vienna-based design studio Seite Zwei transforms The Wolfsonian’s façade and lobby with typefaces, abstract forms, and color schemes derived from the work of Julius Klinger, one of the pioneering graphic artists of the early twentieth century. Their installation, Double Vision, applies the “graphic DNA” of Klinger’s work through a mix of printing techniques, including perception-shifting lenticular prints—in which interlaced images appear to change based on viewing angle, giving the effect of animation—that invite viewers to recognize the layered meanings in the simplest of images.
ABOUT SEITE ZWEI
Founded in 2011 by Stefan Mayer & Christian Begusch, the Vienna-based design studio Seite Zwei develops concepts and projects for individuals, institutions and products both cultural and commercial. Building their work on strong visual ideas, the studio’s output ranges from books and magazines, to identities, installations and branded spaces. By cultivating a content-driven design approach, Seite Zwei seeks an ongoing exchange with its clients and collaborators, resulting in long-lasting relationships and collaborations and a steady progress for both its clients and the studio itself.
